Couldn’t agree with this more, but also always check yourself when in debate with another consumer of that media form over a fundamental ethical issue. Be careful before you tell them that they are fundamentally evil for disagreeing with you, or because they enjoy an evil character.  Don’t begin to police other people when their motives could be complex.  For instance, many villain characters (not all, God knows, but many) are “queercoded” and other coded in some way that makes them relatable to minority populations of various kinds.  And minority populations identify with the character who reflects them most. Telling them that they’re “bad” if they like that “bad” character, then, is itself a morally suspect act: one of bullying.  

Beyond that, yes, issues of an ethical nature must always be part of media consumption and discourse.  Because media forms influence real life behaviors.
