now, hereâs a problem i have with the rpc latelyâŚ
i always see mutuals stating they need to âtackleâ their drafts, or say they need to work extra hard during their free time to just push out due replies. i, myself, say & do the same thing ââ & while roleplaying, yes, is between at least two people with keeping a thread going⌠i canât help but wonderâ
have we, at least myself, lost sight of whatâs important by roleplaying?
most of us spend all of our time on here TRYING TO CATCH UP. in a way, forcing ourselves to write out replies, that we at times might not be happy with. i know iâm guilty of that, anyway. at the end of the day⌠if weâre stressed over catching up, posting stuff weâre not proud of ( at times ), constantly trying to balance between real life & piling up drafts, allowing ourselves to work on writing to threads we might not be inspired for⌠WHY DO WE DO IT?
i feel like the rpc, & the mindset of us as a whole, needs a change. if any of you is like me, you might get what iâm trying to say! donât force yourself to feel like you need to catch up all the time. post stuff you are proud of! do what youâre inspired & motivated for. donât push yourself to respond to things here every chance you can getâ take some time for yourself, as well! this way of structure is⌠kind of unhealthy tbh.
i hate the feeling of constantly âneeding to catch upâ & it makes me not enjoy roleplaying as much. believing that our friends / mutuals / rp partners will grow to resent us due to owing a reply for so long which can be SO ANXIETY INDUCING. can we all learn to just do what we find most fun without being so stressed over our slowness or pickiness??
Sometimes, itâs not a lack of muse or short attention span or lack of time. Sometimes weâre too afraid to write out the reply we had in mind in fear itâs inadequate or written too fast. Then we send replies days, or even weeks, later that we had thought out in our mind since the beginning.Â
//I see a whole lot of posts going around these days about whether a character is âgoodâ or âevilâ and what fellow fans should do and say as a result. The âshouldâ-ing ranges from statements as malicious as those that morally judge and police other fans for liking a character (occasionally justifiable, if said character is, for instance, a sexual predator of children), to statements as benign as the witty retaliation âI love this trash character, donât try to stan them, donât call them a cinnamon roll, theyâve done tons of things wrong and thatâs why I like them!â
I posit an alternative mode of character categorization that exempts consumers of fandom media from moral or ethical evaluation of any kind: is the character INTERESTING, and can you RELATE to the character?
Because a cast of characters functions not because they are all good, or all evil, or some good, or some evil. They function because we can IDENTIFY WITH THEM MEANINGFULLY, and ESPOUSE THEIR MOTIVES: OR BECAUSE WE CANNOT.  This is why people like the characters they like, write the characters they write. Sure, embedded in that relatability is whether you and the character SHARE a moral code, but moralilty and ethics are actually a SUB-component of RELATABILITY VERSUS DISCONNECT.Â
There is also a whole rich and wonderful world of discourse (despite the âŚoddly negative connotation it has via new Tumblr fads) in which issues of social, political, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, and other dimensions of audience vs character identity can be explored, when you look at it this way.Â
Let your arguments in fandom be guided that way. I honestly think that 9 out of 10 times it will make fandom more enriching, and more enjoyable, and discussions therein far deeper. And it bypasses the whole âif you like x character and not y character, you must be a bad personâ thing.Â
â ⌠Iâm sorry, I donât accept envoys in the case of such important queries, you will have to ask your master to bring me his petition in person.â Â
âAlright, Lokes. Iâm here. Question still stands.â
âOho myyyy, that was fast ⌠eheheh! Ah, my dear Mr. Stark, do I really torment you so terribly?â Â
âWell, I mean, if you wonât, Iâm sure Steve certainly will, seeing as he keeps trying to get me backâŚâ
Lokiâs smile never loses its cordial edge, but its temperature plummets. Â
âI have earned the right to monopolize you. So if you plan on even joking about pitting me against other suitors, then you can hang onto your joystick … darling.âÂ
